Abstract
Clinical studies on 72 cases of paroxysmal atrial tachycardia and 6 cases of paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia were made and following results were obtained.
In paroxysmal atrial (or supraventricular) tachycardia;
1. Age of patients varies from the third decade to the sixth decade. There was no significant difference of incidence among sex.
2. Underlying diseases were found hypertension in 25%, atherosclerotic heart disease in 16.7%, rheumatic heart disease in 4.2% and digitalis intoxication in 4.2% and apparently healthy cases in 47.1%.
3. Duration of P.A.T. treated was within 1 hour in 12.0%, 1-24 hours in 72.0% and over 24 hours in 16.0%.
4. Blood pressure were dropped significantly during episode in 46.1% of cases.
5. Valsalvas maneuver or carotid sinus compression were effective in the cessation of tachycardia in 30.4% of cases and digoxin injection in 75.0% of cases.
In paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia of 6 cases;
Age of patient were hypertensive heart disease in 2 cases, rheumatic heart disease in 1 case, W-P-W syndrome in 2 cases and apparently healthy case in 1 case. Procain amide was effective in 3 of 5 cases and diphenylhydantion in one case of transient ventricular tachycardia.
